« My little movie-music »


Marion Brunet (director, movie maker) and Benjamin Sanz (musician composer and improviser) are both founding members of the Collectif MiRR. With the movie-music project, these two artists are giving a new way of thinking on the link between pictures and music but also between writing and improvisation. This esthetic research of this point of strength as for goal to create a narration and a musical writing that lets clear field to imagination and spontaneous creation. The cultural action will be set in three steps: the making of a film without sound, then the creation of its soundtrack. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]— The first step will consist in a sensibilization for the cinematographic languages and codes by analyzing significant movies. Students will have to learn how to translates subject they chose with the help of the teaching staff such as daily life, news subject, social issues. Then they will study narrative scheme, the writing of a script, the creation of characters, the characters assignment, the preparation of the filming, and the filming.

— The second step will be creating starting from the silent movie the entire soundtrack and sound effect in order to illustrate the different scene and emotions that will be on the movie such as happiness, suspense and comedy. This process will allow students to work in groups and will mix the ones who already play an instrument and the one who doesn’t. The fact that students are playing all together highlights the type of relation between instruments and develop through playing music self-confidence and self-expression. Other than the technique specific to each instrument, the anticipation of the way they will play and the order that each instrument will appear during the movie will be essential for the success of this movie-music. The recording methods (computer, soundcard, software and mic) will be discussed and several type of instrument like acoustic, mix between acoustic and effect and electronic will be used for the soundtrack of the movie.

— Scenario of an orchestra with the provision of a room able to project the movie, to practice and present the work they will have done.
